April was a pretty eventful month and I can’t believe we’re almost halfway through 2017 already! I wrote in my April update post that I wanted to focus mostly on skincare instead of makeup for the month and that is exactly what I did. Half of the time, I didn’t wear any makeup at all which felt absolutely freeing. For the days that I did wear makeup, I wore a lot less foundation and concealer, skipped blush and powder, and made sure to wash it off right away when I got home.
I also revised my skincare routine to ensure that I deep-cleansed my pores every 2-3 days with a pore cleansing mask and exfoliated regularly in order to let my anti-aging serum sink better into the skin. It felt pretty awesome to baby my skin and give it some much needed TLC. I also saw great results! Because I mostly focused on skincare last month, I discovered some new skincare favorites and accumulated a bunch of product empties which I will share with you today. Now let’s get on to the faves and product empties!
Origins Original Skin Retexturizing Mask with Rose Clay
I think I’ve seriously found my new favorite mask for deep cleansing my pores! I greatly attribute the Origins Retexturizing Mask with Rose Clay to the improvements I saw in my skin this month. It’s a little more expensive than some of the drugstore masks that I love so much but this is seriously a keeper. I prefer this so much more than the Origins Black Charcoal Mask, which was one of my previous favorites. The Retexturizing Mask refines my pores like no tomorrow, easily extracts the dirt and gunk out of my skin, and leaves it bright and glowy. I haven’t used such an effective yet gentle mask so far and I’ve tried a lot! There are small jojoba oil balls that also exfoliate the skin, which my sensitive skin doesn’t seem to mind, and it doesn’t leave me feeling dry and dehydrated. I love this!
The Body Shop Drops Of Youth Concentrate Serum
I also think that my skin improved dramatically due to The Body Shop Drops of Youth Concentrate Serum which I started using this month. Although it has a quite a bit of alcohol in it, which I usually tend to avoid, I like how fast this serum absorbs into my skin. My pores look more refined and the texture of my skin has also improved!
Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II Serum
I was really happy to finally finish my Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Serum because I had repurchased it 2-3 times in the past 2 years and was dying to try something new. I honestly felt that my skin looked a whole lot more hydrated and plump the first 2 times I purchased it but not so much this time. It’s also pretty pricey so I’m not sure if I’m willing to shell out a ton of money again in the future for mediocre results that were just bleh.
Aveeno Positively Radiant Brightening Cleanser
I don’t usually stray from my usual brand of cleansers because my skin is very selective and tends to only like cream cleansers for hydration. But I saw the Aveeno Positively Radiant Brightening Cleanser on sale in the drugstore so I decided to take the plunge and give it a try. I think this is a pretty mediocre cleanser and nothing really special about it jumps out at me. It says that it has moisture-rich soy extracts that help to improve texture, clarity, and skin tone but I didn’t really see any visible effects.
Freeman Feeling Beautiful Avocado and Oatmeal Clay Mask
I talked about the Freeman Feeling Beautiful Avocado and Oatmeal Clay Mask in my previous post about deep cleansing masks for acne-prone skin. Out of all of the Freeman masks, this one is my favorite because it’s the most effective in deep cleansing my sensitive skin without drying it out excessively. I will definitely be repurchasing this again sometime in the future but not until after I finish a bunch of my other masks!
Clinique City Block Sheer Oil-Free Daily Face Protector SPF 25
Ahh…another tube of my favorite sunscreen finished this month! I always make sure to have backups of the Clinique City Block Sheer Oil-Free Daily Face Protector SPF 25 in my beauty kit. This sunscreen is pretty multi-purpose because it acts as a primer for me in the summer and also as an extra layer of moisturizer under my makeup in the winter. I go through these like crazy because I wear sunscreen religiously every day, regardless of whether it’s rain or shine! Read my post here about why sunscreen is so important for anti-aging.
Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter in Strawberry Shortcake
The Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter in Strawberry Shortcake is the only makeup product that I really finished this month. I was super sad that this lip balm was a part of my product empties list this month because Revlon discontinued it a while back. I love it so much for the formulation and the pigmented color payoff so I’ll definitely be needing to find a replacement product for this soon.
What are some of your favorites and/or product empties you finished last month? Feel free to share!
