One of my favorite ways to shop nowadays is online.
It’s a fast and easy way to shop if you hate long line-ups, huge crowds of people at the mall, and you want to save money on gas and get your package delivered right to your door!
Earn Cashback & Save Money
Every time I shop online, I always make sure to check if what I’m about to purchase can give me free cashback.
Rakuten (formerly known as Ebates) is my go-to site to save money for every online purchase I make and I would totally recommend them if you’re looking to save some change.
So far, I’ve earned over $500 just from shopping online like I already regularly do!
It’s a very simple and easy way to get free cash by just clicking a few extra buttons and the best part is that it’s totally FREE!
And right now, Rakuten will give you a free gift card of $20 that can be put towards your purchase if you sign up through my link and spend $20.
So How Does Rakuten Work?
Rakuten works by giving you a set percentage of your purchase back to you each time you shop.
The percentage you receive from each store you purchase from will vary from day to day.
However, a lot of times, Rakuten has double or triple cashback days where you can earn double or triple the normal percentage of cashback. I like buying online the most on these days, of course!
So in this example, if the original cashback percentage for the day is 8% at a store and it’s a double or triple cashback day, you will get 16-24% cashback respectively just for purchasing through Rakuten!
It’s literally free money and you don’t have to pay a single cent to use this service.
Coupons, Free Shipping, And Other Promotional Discounts
Now you might be asking: what about regular sales, promotional discounts, and free shipping offers on the shopping sites themselves?
Have no fear! The perks of using Rakuten gets even sweeter.
The cashback that you earn from Rakuten is not at all related to the site that you are purchasing from.
So for example, if there is a sale on the shop’s site for 35% and free shipping and Rakuten gives you a cashback percentage of 8%, you will get a total of 43% off your online purchase and free shipping right to your door.
You can see that the total amount of money you save will add up quite quickly!
One awesome thing that I love about Rakuten is that they also list all available coupon codes, sales, and current deals (such as free shipping) that are available along with the percentage of cashback you will receive – all in one site.
That means less time needed for you if you’re searching around for a great deal.
Is This A Scam
Now you might be thinking that Rakuten is a scam because it sounds like it’s too good to be true.
Nope, Rakuten is absolutely not a scam!
I’ve earned over $500 from just shopping regularly the way I already do. I would’ve missed out on earning those few hundred bucks if I didn’t use Rakuten!
So now that you know how Rakuten works, let’s get on with the tutorial on how to use it to save money and get free cashback. It’s very simple to use.
First, head on over to the Rakuten main page. This is how the site looks like when you first arrive:
Now, just as an example, let’s search for Forever 21. I shop from them pretty often and luckily for me, they are partnered with Rakuten.
Once you’re ready to go to your desired website, make sure to click the Shop Now button to ensure that Rakuten has recorded your shopping trip.
*Be careful and double check to make sure that you have actually clicked the button! There was a time that I thought I clicked the button, but the site never actually tracked my purchase. I ended up not getting cashback for my purchase even after emailing them and explaining what happened.
After you have clicked the Shop Now button, there should be a screen that tells you that you are on your way to getting cashback with a unique shopping trip number.
Once the message on the screen above disappears, it will bring you to the shop’s website and you can add all the items you would normally purchase and then proceed through the normal checkout process.
You can then check your shopping trips in the Shopping Trips tab to see which sites you have gone to. If you received cashback for a certain site, there will be a checkmark under the Cashback column next to the respective shopping trip number.
Your cashback will then either be sent to you by Paypal, cheque, or donated on your behalf to a charity/organization of your choice after you have accumulated $5.01 or more in your balance every quarter.
One Last Thing
To really simplify things and make sure that you never miss out on any cashback opportunities (especially for people who forget things easily, like me!), I highly recommend downloading the Rakuten Chrome extension if you use Google Chrome as your main internet browser.
If you don’t have Google Chrome, they also have the Rakuten cashback button available for other browsers including Safari, Firefox, and Edge.
Then click the Add To Chrome button.
As you can see below, the button shows that I’ve already added the extension to Chrome.
Once you’ve downloaded and activated the extension to your browser, you will see the Rakuten extension icon on the top right-hand corner of your browser.
It will flash a red outline every time you visit a site that is partnered with Rakuten. Also, a pop-up will appear to ask you to activate the cashback.
Just click the Activate button each time you want to earn cashback on your purchase!
Whether I’m shopping online for a present for my family and friends or a little something for myself, I always make sure to check Rakuten first to see if I can save money.
It only requires a few extra clicks each time you make a purchase and it’s such a fast and simple way to earn a little bit of extra cash.
Best of all, it’s totally free so there’s no reason not to try it out! I’ve earned over $500 and there’s no reason that you can’t as well.
If you use my link to sign up, you’ll get a free $20 cashback bonus that can be used towards your first purchase!
